In Australia, i prezzi di frutta e verdura al supermercato sono aumentati tantissimo. Per questo adesso vado dal fruttivendolo - In Australia, the prices of fruit and vegetables in the supermarket have increased dramatically. That's why I'm going to the greengrocer now.

Avvincente – captivating/compelling/enthralling
Il film più avvincente che ho visto? V for Vendetta - The most compelling film I've seen? V for Vendetta.
Baby boomer – baby boomer
Uno studente mi ha chiesto come si dice ‘baby boomer’. Si dice ‘baby boomer’. Spesso usiamo le parole inglesi quando è difficile tradurle - A student asked me how to say 'baby boomer'. It's 'baby boomer'. We often use English words when it’s hard to translate them.
Benzina – petrol/fuel
A: “Mi hanno detto che la tua squadra del cuore ha perso… Vuoi prenderti un giorno libero?”
B: “Smettila di gettare benzina sul fuoco… Ci rifaremo al prossimo derby!”
A: “They told me your favorite team lost… Do you want to take a day off?”
B: “Stop adding fuel to the fire… We'll win the next derby!”
Bevande analcoliche/bibite – soft drinks
A: “Vuoi una bibita?”
B: “Ma che bibita! Bevitela tu! Dammi un bel bicchiere di Barbera”.
A: “Would you like a soft drink?”
B: “A soft drink? Drink it yourself! Give me a glass of Barbera."
Bolletta – bill
Pagare le bollette online è molto meglio che fare la coda alla posta – Paying bills online is much better than queuing at the post office.
Borsa di studio – scholarship
A: “Se vuoi ottenere una borsa di studio non puoi continuare ad andare a ballare tre volte alla settimana”
B: “Questo lo dici tu…”
A: “If you want to get a scholarship you can't keep going dancing three times a week”
B: “YOU say that…”
Buono – voucher
A: “Ho ricevuto un buono per un massaggio.”
B: “Che bel regalo!”
A: “I received a voucher for a massage.”
B: “What a great gift!”
Cambiamento climatico – climate change
A: “Se sento un’altra persona dire che il cambiamento climatico non esiste, giuro che li trasformo in un Gargoyle”
B: “I Gargoyle sono carini, meglio trasformarli in pesce blob”
A: “If I hear one more person say climate change doesn't exist, I swear I will turn them into a Gargoyle”
B: “Gargoyles are cute, better turn them into blobfish”
Colloquio di lavoro – job interview
A: “È andato a fare un colloquio di lavoro in Svizzera e appena è entrato ha visto la sua ex, sai quella che gli ha rubato i soldi e pure il suo gatto…”
B: “Non ci credo! E che ha fatto?”
A: “Ha chiamato la polizia e per prima cosa è andato a riprendersi il gatto”
B: “Ben fatto!”
A: “He went for a job interview in Switzerland and as soon as he entered the room he saw his ex, you know the one who stole his money and his cat…”
B: “I can’t believe it! And what did he do?
A: “He called the police and first thing he went to get his cat back”
B: “Good on him!”
Camino – fireplace
A: “Mi manca sedermi davanti al camino e coccolare i miei gatti”.
B: “Ma non avevi detto che odi il freddo?”
A: “Sì, ma non quando sono in casa al caldo.”
B: “A volte non ti capisco…”
A: “I miss sitting in front of the fireplace and cuddling my cats.”
B: “But didn't you say that you hate the cold?”
A: “Yes, but not when I'm indoor in the heat.”
B: “Sometimes I don't understand you…”
Camion – truck
Federica: “Ti ricordi di quella volta che abbiamo visto il film The Aviator e volevo diventare un’aviatrice?”
Valentina: “Sì, mi ricordo anche di quella volta che hai visto Monster Jam e volevi comprarti un camion…”
Federica: “Do you remember that time we saw the movie The Aviator and I wanted to become an aviator?”
Valentina: “Yes, I also remember that time you saw Monster Jam and wanted to buy a truck…”
Campagna elettorale – political/election campaign
A: “C’è un politico per cui non faresti mai campagna elettorale?”
B: “Se hai tempo fino a domani, posso farti la lista”
A: “Is there a politician you would never campaign for?”
B: “If you can stay here until tomorrow, I can tell you the list”
Capolavoro – masterpiece
A: “Tutti dicono che La Gioconda sia uno dei più grandi capolavori della storia dell’arte, ma io vedo soltanto una donna brutta”.
B: “Certo che sei proprio un bruto!”
A: “No, sono semplicemente onesto”
A: “Everyone says that La Gioconda is one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of art, but I only see an ugly woman.”
B: “You're just a brute!”
A: “No, I'm just honest”
